The 2017 arbitration deadline happened on Friday January 13, 2017 at 1:00pm EST.
A handful of Blue Jays players were wanting to avoid arbitration, and agree on a new 2017 salary. The Blue Jays who agreed on salaries were:
- INF Darwin Barney ($2,887,500 – 1 year)
- OF Ezequiel Carrera ($1,162,500 – 1 year)
- RHP Aaron Loup ($1,125,000 – 1 year)
Like last year, there is one key player of our team left off of this list. Last year it was Josh Donaldson (he ended up getting this), but this year it is Marcus Stroman. Hopefully the Jays will be able to sign him to some sort of multi-year deal to avoid arbitration. Apparently, they were negotiating about $300,000, which in the grand scheme of things is not that much. We shall see how things turn out in the coming weeks… only 29 days left until pitchers and catchers report!!!
I actually did a post on Jays arbitration news post for the 2016 season, and you can read it here.
